A role which focuses on ensuring the provision of high quality evidence-based nursing care in a clinical setting. The Senior Staff Nurse will lead a nursing team in delivering optimum patient care and deputise for the sister/charge nurse as required providing clinical support to the nursing team.
The post holder is required to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and should always:

Assist the Sister/Charge Nurse with operational requirements in the delivery of a consistent, safe service in all aspects of the patient journey whilst instilling a culture of customer service throughout the nursing team.
Manage a team of nurses by organising the patient allocation
Provide consistent, clear, clinical and professional leadership and act as a mentor for all staff demonstrating professional awareness and accountability.
Participate in the direct nursing care of patients as a clinical leader and expert.
Act as a Link Nurse in a designated area reporting to and from meetings / training updates.
Recognise the needs for DOL’s assessments, mental capacity assessment and ‘simple’ and ‘complex’ safeguarding referrals. Take part in the referral and review process.
Liaise with the Support Services to ensure all non-clinical needs are met including the cultural, sexual, religious, and any other special needs of the patients.
Have a working knowledge of emergency policies including cardiac arrest and fire and ensure that staff working within your team are aware of these.
Deputise for the Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence.
Undertake clinical duties in any area that is reasonably requested ensuring that you practice within your professional competencies and abilities
